No need to adopt that tone, just calm down now. It's just a simple little competition to aid enjoyment of the Tournament. The gist of it is that participants predict in advance the score of every match and accumulate points or not depending on the accuracy of the prediction. Simple eh?

"Doesn't sound much fun to me".

Well you may be right, but just wait a moment. We'll all be up and enthusiastic for the England matches (well the first one anyway), but we've got a full month of non-stop footballing nonsense to get through. How are you going to feel after just a week of Mark Pougatch and Gary Lineker trying to out-dour each other 12 hours a day?

Yes, this little competition might just stop you slumping into your TV Dinner when Slovakia play Romania, because those points are just as good as any others. And believe me, it's the first time Croatia v Albania will matter to anyone.

So stick with it and check out the scoring system.

Note on filling out the Competition Entry Form

In the knockout stage match predictions please enter in the yellow boxes your predicted scores at the end of open play (ie potentially after extra time). The end of open play score can of course be a draw in which case you can enter penalty scores in the grey boxes to force through a team to the next round. Do note however that this will not be "used" at all by the competition (which is just concerned with scores at the end of open play).

Anagram Competition

One other thing though. As if this wasn't enough, there's the optional (though traditional) anagram competition to be entered too. Enter your best effort using all the letters and in return receive internet immortality. Euro 2024's magic phrase is:

Harry Kane hopes for a win. A great victory in Berlin must be expected.

Go on, give it a go. You know it makes sense.
